New Student Orientation 2012
During the summer of 2012 I had a position working with Campus Rec and Enrolment Management helping plan New Student Orientation. My duties included recruiting over 50 Volunteer Student Ambassadors, Phoning nearly 800 incoming students to confirm their registration, setting up registration, and organizing the Amazing Adventure. The Amazing Adventure was the main event of NSO. It had 750 students on 50 teams directing themselves through 16 stations across campus. For this event I was in charge of writing the clues and organizing puzzle pieces that went along with the clues, printing and distributing clues to each station, recruiting faculty volunteers to man the stations, creating team flags and individual buffs. It was the first time doing an event like this during NSO at VIU. Overall it was a huge success, although with many learning points for next year.
I was asked to be on the planning committee for the 2013 NSO and am looking forward to mobilizing my knowledge from the prior year and using it to improve the event for this coming year.
