Intramural at VIU

By being a participant in intramural programs as well as a league coordinator I have realized the immense benefits group recreation can have on a student experience and how it can help create a broader Campus community.

I have had the opportunity of helping out with many Campus Rec events and activities on campus, including things like Varsity games, Special Events, Rock the Boat (indoor welcome back carnival/fair), student leadership and intramurals. I have held positions as a referee as well as the Volleyball league manager for the past year. With this role I organize the team, rosters, standings and draws on a weekly basis. I gained experience working with deadlines, since the draw was constantly changing and we had to get the new draw out to participants in a timely manner. Within Volleyball intramurals there are five pools with skill levels ranging from beginners to competitive, with varying personalities as well. As the league manager I got a lot of experience dealing with a diverse group of individuals as well as problem solving and keeping the flow of the evening on track.
